Today I feel like sharing a personal story.
This morning, I talked to a client of mine about the power of creating a strong life vision and shared with him a powerful exercise called “Your Ten-Year Plan For A Remarkable Life” (by Debbie Millman).
Later, while browsing through some files in my computer I came across a forgotten folder from 2016. Back then, I was in a tough place career wise, a bit lost and more than a bit frustrated. I had to take some time to regroup before I make my next move. I followed my intuition and took a course on Emotional Intelligence. So, today I noticed a file from that course named “Write your personal vision”, dated Nov 2016. I opened that “time capsule” with curiosity and here is what I read:
“I have a profession that is actually my hobby and passion. I work independently and I am able to choose only assignments that fit my values. My work brings me fulfillment and joy. It is related to communication, providing support and advice, educating, writing and travelling. I am in touch with people from different countries, backgrounds and cultures. I truly enjoy the cross-cultural experience and exchange. I have friends and connections around the globe who lead me to interesting projects and various destinations. My work has a strong positive impact on the society and helps to improve people’s lives and ways of thinking.”
I realized this is where I am now and I can hardly think of a better description. Six years later all of this has become a reality.
It is hard to express my gratitude to all people and circumstances that have been presented to me in the last years which helped me get to where I am today. I also wholeheartedly thank my “2016 Self” for creating that vision, even though (or maybe because!) I was in a much darker place.
By sharing this, I want to encourage You, dear reader, to dare to dream and remind you that so much of what we have is what we create for ourselves. Once we truly make up our mind about what we really want, our brains start to work in that direction. We start to notice the relevant opportunities, circumstances evolve, we make choices and when we action on them – they leads us to where we want to be.
Or in the magical words of the Pulitzer Prize winning American poet, Carl Sandburg. “Nothing happens unless at first, we dream.”
Now, pick up this pen and paper and start creating your future life.
If you need some support – count me in 🙂
